Convert hard drive or USB flash drive from FAT32 to NTFS

When exporting movies to a memory card or a USB stick, you usually have the problem that these storage media are formatted in the FAT or FAT32 file system as standard. No matter how big the media is - this limits the possible file size to 1GB (FAT) or 4GB (FAT32), which is often not enough for longer movies in HD quality :!:

New media can usually be right-clicked on a Windows PC and reformatted. "NTFS" is to be used as the file system. During formatting, all data is deleted :!:

In order to make media with existing files usable for larger film files, they can be converted to NFTS on the PC. If the disk is empty, it can be easily formatted in NTFS starting with Windows 7. Starting with Bogart 4 or RelaxVision 4, export to NTFS media is supported and thus even longer films can be stored on these media. For example, a Full HD film can land on a 16 GB memory card and be sent as a letter.

ATTENTION: Media in NTFS format can be used on the PC and Casablanca/DVC device at any time. A camera or an AVCHD camcorder will not support this format :!: But you can delete it at any time on the PC and format it in the original FAT/FAT32 system.

The procedure for converting:
  • Plug in the media (memory card, USB stick or USB hard drive) to the PC and wait until they are displayed at the Desktop.
  • Open the drive to make sure it is the correct disk.
  • Note the drive letter, this is required for the conversion.
  • Click on "Start" - click (or keyboard shortcut Windows key + "r")
  • Type the command "cmd" and press [Enter]
  • In the MS-DOS Shell, the following command is typed: "convert {drive letter} /FS:NTFS /V" (where {drive letter} must be replaced with the corresponding letter of the USB device. For example: E: or F: etc. (z.B. convert E: /FS:NTFS /V )
  • As feedback: "File system is converted." should follow, which can take some time (depending on the size).
  • With the message "Conversion finished." the process is complete and you can close the DOS window.
  • The device properties will now display the NTFS file system on the drive and a x-hour movie can now be exported to it.
